YUKI SAYS VOLKSWAGEN''S CARAVELLE IS `THE DOGS!''
18 October 2004 - Rizla-Suzuki
RIZLA SUZUKI racer Yukio Kagayama claims the Volkswagen Caravelle he has driven all year while living in the UK is `the dogs!''
Applying the same logical test rider mentality that has taken him to third in the British Superbike Championship and four victories this year, Yuki was happy to supply Rizla Suzuki partner Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles with feedback on the Caravelle he has driven for the last eight months. ''I know a British phrase that fits Volkswagen Caravelle perfect - it is `the dogs!'''' said Yuki. ''I like this words, it is very British and I will be teaching it to friends in Japan. ''First importance is rear seats far away from me with good security so my daughters Sakura and Nana are safe and cannot interfere with my drivings. Even when children singing loud, I can turn up excellent CD player with eight speakers and not be bothered. ''There are seven seats so I have some more family to produce before I fill up Caravelle. At current family count of four, there is plenty room for my wife Kiyomi to sit in middle row of seats and take care of Sakura and Nana in back. I also like space in Caravelle because I can practice my favourite hobby when parked at shopping centre - sleeping. I can make bed with seats. There is even table I use for coffee cup or computer to check e-mails. ''When Kiyomi returns with empty Yuki wallet, there is lots of room for her bags. We can fit lots into boot and if needed, can move seats again when she decides to buy big things.'' The climate control air conditioning system keeps the temperature for all the Kagayama clan just right, while the electric windows are a valued convenience when tackling ticket machines and the Dartford tunnel. Remote locking is essential for making a cool entrance or exit and the tinted windows help Yuki to hide from over enthusiastic fans when he wants to snooze. The performance of the Volkswagen Caravelle is also a Yuki favourite. He said: ''Volkswagen gives me 2.5litre TDI five-cylinder engine with 174PS. This has 400NM of torque and is maximum fun to drive. This makes practical big-space family car into sports car. ''Engine is so good it makes for easy acceleration and motorway driving. Many sports cars I take their scalps with Caravelle. Feedback and control through corners is good. ''Once a little dog leaps in front of me as I am doing maybe 65mph... I brake and steer around stupid animal and thanks maybe to Electronic Stabilisation Programme I manage to avoid accident. I think controls of Caravelle are maximum good.'' Just in case its needed, the Caravelle offers a host of built in safety features, including curtain airbags in the first two rows of seats, three-point inertia reel belts, an integral child''s seat, anti-lock brakes, electronic differential lock, traction control and excellent visibility. ''Even alloy wheels look good on Caravelle,'' explains Yuki. ''This is great car. I am Japanese but I use plain English to tell you the Volkswagen Caravelle is `the dogs!'''' Prices for the Volkswagen Caravelle start at £25,100 OTR and go up to £32,900.
