REVOLUTIONARY HELMET FEATURING PHILLIPS HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM DUE TO GO ON SALE IN THE UK AS SOON AS MID-2005
18 October 2004 - Phillips Helmets Ltd
The revolutionary Phillips helmet, that is designed to dramatically reduce the effects of rotational force by simulating the human head, has come a step closer to production following successful wind tunnel testing.
Initial testing by the Transport Research Laboratory showed improvements of well over 50% in reducing rotational force compared with modern motorcycle helmets. Its inventor, Dr. Kenneth Phillips, took a prototype to the wind-tunnel facility at Southampton University, which has been used for a wide variety of industrial tests, including sail tests for America’s Cup and round the world racing yachts. The testing proved that the membrane, which covers the helmet shell, was not affected by wind blast & remained intact and stable at high speed. Wind-tunnel testing is a final proving exercise prior to starting production later this year and the first batch of Phillips-designed helmets are expected to go on sale in the UK in mid-2005.
