TYRED & UNDER PRESSURE?

200MPH NAKANO MotoGP crash demonstrates need for Tyre Pressure Monitors
Smartire, manufacturers of the innovative active tyre monitor, claim that Shinya Nakano’s 200mph blow out in the Mugello MotoGP supports the case for fitting active tyre monitors to high performance motorcycles. Sudden loss of tyre pressure can often be preceded by tell tale signs which Smarttire’s equipment is designed to detect. Using sophisticated sensing and radio frequency technology, the SmarTire tyre monitoring system can be fitted to all standard motorcycles using tubeless tyres. Tyre pressure & temperature information is transmitted wirelessly from the sensor in the wheel to the display, which shows actual pressure and temperature in a digital readout. In addition to indicating when tyres are under- or over-inflated, Smartire will also alert riders to significant temperature fluctuations, which generally occur prior to a catastrophic failure, such as a blow out. In the USA, the Government has recognised that under inflated tyres are a major cause of road traffic accidents and have created the TREAD Act, with a mandate for all passenger cars, vans & light trucks to include low tyre pressure warning systems as standard. Fitting Smartire requires the simple connection of the digital display to the motorcycle via just two wires, while the sensors can be most conveniently fitted the next time that the tyres are changed.
