YAMAHA LOOKING FOR NEW TALENT

Yamaha R6 Cup develops young talents
Every major motorbike producer has their trophy but the Yamaha R6 Cup has been a special success, starting with the huge number of entries: “In 2006 he limited the numbers to 150 but we had 180 entries,” Alberto Barozzi, the organiser and former motorcross rider said. “It was a huge success and we decided to limit the entries because we wanted to treat the pilots well and we wouldn’t have been able to do that with a higher number of entries.” In 2007, more of the same. “We’re already open for entries and for the next two years we’ll be part of the Italian Speed Championship.” Yamaha’s links to racing goes back many years and started with success in the mid-eighties with the RD 350 class. “Our philosophy is to help young pilots break through. The bikes are very similar and so it is the pilots’ skill to make the difference.” That happened this year with 2006 Supersport champion Massimo Roccoli. Sebastiano Zerbo has won the Yamaha title for two years and has had the chance to compete in the Italian and then world championship. “We’re really proud of Massimo and he’s an example for everybody along with Tony Cairoli –vice world cross champion and Claudio Corti –vice Superstock Italian champion,” Barozzi says. “We’re working on other young talents such as Magnoni, Perotti, Valsecchi, Filice…”. The future looks bright for Yamaha.
