SCUNTHORPE have confirmed they will defend their Conference League title next season - with a view to promotion to the Premier League in 2008.

Club bosses Rob Godfery and Norman Beeney have made the announcement to stop speculation over next season''s plans.

A club statement said: ''Assuming crowds remain at their current levels throughout the first half of 2007, then the club envisage making an early application to join the 2008 Premier League.''

WORKINGTON legend Carl Stonehewer is staying tight-lipped over news that the club have offered him a team place next season.

The former Grand Prix star has missed over a year with serious injuries but is now fit to race - if he decides to.

But he has recently started a new full-time job away from the sport and is likely to see how that goes before deciding his future.
