ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR
01 November 2006 - Dungannon & District Motorcycle Club
Dungannon and District Motorcycle Club in indebted to its racing members who have done so much work to help run the club and the Bush Road Races event.
Ryan Farquhar, a club delegate to Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre), missed much of the season due to injuries sustained during practise for Cookstown 100 in April. Despite being unable to ride at his home race, managed to put in a few display laps during practise, as well as helping to set up and remove safety bales and other circuit furniture. At the end of the 2006 season, after only competing in the final few rounds, he had finished the Daingean Senior Championship in 21st place, the Supersport 600 in 14th (with one win), as well as fifth and sixth places in Junior and Senior Classic races at the Manx Grand Prix, top ten finishes at the Ulster Grand Prix and podiums at the International Gold Cup at Scarborough. John Burrows, also a delegate to MCUI (UC), finished both Senior and Supersport 600 Championships in third place and fifth in the 250 Championship, despite having no race wins. He had top fifteen finishes at the North West 200 and his debut at the Ulster Grand Prix, as well as top twenty finishes at the Isle of Man TT. Despite a spill early in the day, still managed to walk away from the Bush Road Races with two podiums and a fourth place. An engineer by trade, John has built the removable fencing around much of the circuit. Trevor Ferguson, also a delegate to MCUI (UC), and probably the fastest chippy in Ireland, had a podium and two top ten finishes at the Bush, where he debuted his Triumph 675. Despite recently entering his third decade of racing, he made his Manx Grand Prix debut with eighth and 23rd place finishings in the Newcomers and Junior respectively on the Autotech Kawasaki and 23rd in the Senior on the Trumpet. Andrew Neill made his return to the Manx Grand Prix this year and finished fourth and sixth in the Junior and Senior races respectively. His performance at the Cookstown 100 and during practise at the Tandragee 100 showed that he could have made a great impression in the Supersport 600 championship this year, but an unfortunate accident that also involved Kenny McCrea and Yarno Holland on race day left him with a busted arm and bike. Doctors did not approve his return to racing until just before the Bush where he took his R6 Yamaha to fourth in the Open Race and sixth in the Supersport 600. Nigel Moore, who led the 125cc race at the Bush practically from start to finish only to have victory snatched from his grasp by a bike length from Darran Lindsay, finished the Irish Championship in eighth place. John, Trevor and William Stewart competed in Classic racing on roads and short circuits with competitive finishes in the 250 and 350 classes. Also on the short circuits, teenage Gary Jeffers, from Tullyhogue, completed the season in second place in the Bridgestone Supersport 600 Championship at Clubmans level. Timmy Turtle based his entire season around his Manx Grand Prix debut, where he finished the Newcomers in 18th and the Junior in 60th. The Newmills rider finished eighth, 14th and 16th in the 750 Support, Supersport 600 and Open at the Bush respectively.
