SPEEDWAY 1 ARENA-ESSEX have been taken over by former club sponsor Stuart Douglas in a surprise move. Current owner Ronnie Russell admits he is sad to be leaving Purfleet but the move is in the best interests of the club. Douglas, owner of 2006 main sponsors Duggo 7, said :''I know it has been a difficult decision for Ronnie but I''m very excited by the prospect of taking the club to a new level.'' SPEEDWAY 2 PETER Karlsson romped to Wolverhampton''s rider of the year award - and then pledged his future to the club. Karlsson got the better of Fredrik Lindgren and Billy Hamill to take the trophy at the club''s presentation dinner. He said: ''I''m going to be riding in England again next season and I would obviously like that to be with Wolverhampton. If the call comes then I will be delighted.''
