2006 INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER SHOW OPENS ITS DOORS IN SPECTACULAR STYLE

The International Motorcycle and Scooter Show kicked off today in spectacular style, with a host of bike unveilings and highlights including the UK launch of brand new models from Suzuki and Honda, appearances from race stars such as Troy Corser, James Toseland and Ryuichi Kiyonari and the first ever public showing of the Thunderdome Games Arena. The Show, which runs until 5th November, looks to be the most entertaining yet, with more interactive features than ever and an impressive line-up of famous riders set to appear.

Charley Boorman and Suzi Perry officially opened the show on the Blackhorse Stage at 12.00, introducing the Minister of State for Transport Dr Stephen Ladyman, who acknowledged the importance of motorcycling as a key mode of transport in the future as well as presenting the MCIA with the Prince Michael Safety Award.

A regular visitor to the show, Charley Boorman commented, “There is loads of stuff going on at this year’s show to keep all ages entertained, from experienced bikers to children as young as five. The off-road feature is a must and the mini-moto circuit is great fun.”

Suzuki impressed the crowds with the first UK unveiling of the GSX-R1000 and the dramatic UK launch of the brand new B-King, a bike that claims to create a class of its own. Biking personality Janie Omorogbe and Suzuki’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Nick Palmer, introduced the 1300cc B-King bike. Honda had more treats in store with the introduction of their brand new CB600F Hornet which made its UK premier at today’s Show. Honda celebrated their success in competitive biking by introducing some of their top riders including WSB rider James Toseland, 2006 BSB Champion Ryuichi Kiyonari and TT hero John McGuiness.

Brand new for 2006, the Thunderdome Games Arena was seen by the crowds for the first time today. The live action stunt show, which incorporates a stream of spectacular manoeuvres performed by highly trained stunt riders, wowed the crowds and set the standard for the remaining ten days of the show. Crowds were gripped by a sequence of quad bike, motorbike and rollerblading tricks completed by a dramatic stunt involving three bikes and a 16 foot metal cage.

Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions, Finlay McAllan, commented: “The Show got off to a fantastic start for 2006 with a number of impressive bike launches and rider appearances. With features including the Harley-Davidson V-Rod experience, the Bike Ride Out and the Off-Road Experience and the Thunderdome Games Arena which looks like it will be extremely popular, we are looking forward to a very successful ten days.”

Standard ticket prices are £15 for adults, £13 for students, £5 for senior citizens and children between eleven and sixteen, and £35 for a family ticket. Children under the age of eleven are admitted for free.
