THIRD PLACE FOR CABESTANY

Albert Cabestany reached the third position on the podium in this next to last race in the Spanish Trials Championship.

The race was held in the Spanish locality of Ourense in intense rain which fell most of the day. This event again showed the high level of equality that exists among the leading riders, with the first two places, Raga and Bou in a tie with 6 marks lost and Albert on his Sherco only tree points behind. This round, despite the rain did not pose any serious problems to the riders as shown by the low scores, an event like this does pose some serious problems in that one mistake can move them down in the classification.

This is exactly what happened to Cabestany, he lost points in the early sections on the first lap, he did however have a very good second lap in which he only lost one point, and this second lap insured him the third podium position for the day. The finish today allowed him to trim two points off of Fajardo and he expects to pass him in the last round of the championship which should move him into third place in the series.

Albert Cabestany: “The race today was very simple, but by this some token any failure could be impossible to recover from. I did not ride great in the first sections and this kept me from the victory. Now my goal is to recover and finish in third place in the championship when we compete again in 15 days, it would be great to finish with a victory.”
