RE-INVENTING 2 WHEELS
01 October 2004 - Peugeot

Peugeot Ludix scooters from £799 on the road. Peugeot claim that their new range of Ludix scooters herald a return to practical and affordabletransport for the masses.

The French company, which is best known for its stylish and reliable
cars, has embraced the virtue of simplicity to create the innovative range of Ludix scooters. By optimising both the vehicle itself and the manufacturing process involved, Peugeot have created a straightforward, user-friendly and efficient two-wheeler at the lowest possible price.

As soon as you see a Ludix scooter, it is immediately apparent that Peugeot have dispensed with bulky body panels to the extent that the rear sub-frame, which supports the seat, is on the outside. This has a dramatic effect on the vehicle as a whole, making it light and slender with a contemporary look. Weighing in at 65-70Kg (depending on model type) is substantially lighter than comparable scooters, a fact which will be welcomed by many female riders, with the majority of 50cc scooters weighing anything between 80-100Kg! This light weight also makes the Ludix easy to manoeuvre and park and boosts its power-to-weight ratio, giving better acceleration and responsiveness. Comfort is well catered for, thanks to the well-padded seat and generous amount of leg room in the foot well. Power is supplied by the 50cc fully-automatic 2-stroke engine, designed by Peugeot to meet the tough EURO 2 emissions limits.

The Ludix is unashamedly basic - you won''t find a rev counter or under-seat storage bin - but it more than makes up for this with avant garde styling. The body panels are tinted, rather than painted, in contemporary colours, while the triangular dashboard and headlights are both integrated into the front panels to give a distinctive and unconventional profile. Peugeot have also taken care to reduce the risk of damage should the Ludix be dropped or knocked over, by
minimising the number of exposed plastic panels.

Should you wish to give your Ludix a make-over, however, simply unscrew the coloured panels and replace with an alternative colour - Peugeot even offer carbon-look bodywork. No need for expensive re-sprays or skilled panel-beaters!
Like most modern cars, the Ludix is available in a choice of specifications to suit all tastes and pockets. In its basic form it is equipped with 10” wheels and a kick start, but for an extra charge 14” items are available, together with electric start. However, all models share the same bodywork, engine and controls, which helps to minimalise production costs. This modular design enables owners of the basic models to upgrade them with features fitted to the higher specification
models over time.

Should any Ludix owner wish to ''accessorize'' their scooter, they will be spoilt
for choice. There is everything from screens and side spoilers to glove boxes, top boxes, panniers and even a “shopping basket” ( very French). In other words you can build a scooter to your own specification.

Prices start at just £799 on the road for the single seat Ludix One. Peugeot expect the Trend, priced at £1,099 and equipped with electric start and front disc brake, to be the most popular model and as such it is substantially less expensive than comparable European scooters. This fact, combined with frugal running costs, two year warranty and the reassurance of the Peugeot badge, backed by a nationwide network of some 300 dealers, could well mark a resurgence of scooter ownership to levels not seen since the Fifties and Sixties.
