The fascinating world of motorcycles: Exciting supporting programme for fans
and newcomers

>From 11th to 15th October 2006, trade dealers and bikers were treated to a
spectacular motorcycle event in Cologne: INTERMOT. Compared to the previous
event in 2004, the number of visitors was up by about 31,000 or 20 per cent
to more than 187,000. Exciting world premieres and new products for
motorized bikes and scooters created a fantastic atmosphere and lured crowds
of visitors to the stands on all days of the fair. ''INTERMOT Cologne 2006
was a superlative biker''s show and the mood among the exhibitors and
visitors was outstanding - it was a sensational experience for everyone
there,'' said Oliver P. Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse, in an
initial statement. ''The record number of visitors has impressively
underscored Cologne''s role as the hub of the motorcycle sector and provided
new momentum for business and the motorcycling scene.''

Reiner Brendicke, General Executive Manager of the German Motorcycle
Industry Association (IVM), is also confident that INTERMOT Cologne 2006
will give the market for motorbikes and scooters a sustained boost. ''Our
decision to bring INTERMOT back to Cologne has been proven to be correct in
every way,'' he said. ''This is borne out not only by the large visitor
turnout, but also by the fact that we were able to get more young people
excited about motorcycles and scooters. Thanks to the manufacturers'' product
premieres and innovations and of course the fascinating supporting
programme, an increased number of motorcycle fans as well as newcomers and
people curious about motorbikes were attracted to the event.''

INTERMOT Cologne 2006 had a record number of over 187,000 visitors from 120
countries - representing a major increase of 20 per cent over the previous
event. The international specialist trade came to view the new models and
technical innovations first-hand, and they made up a very large share
(approximately 30 per cent) of the total number of visitors. Around 37 per
cent of the trade visitors came from abroad.

INTERMOT Cologne 2006 also had an increased number of exhibitors. Of the
1,130 suppliers, 345 came from Germany and 785 from abroad, which represents
an increase of 50 companies (approx. five per cent). Almost 70 per cent of
the exhibitors were from abroad. In all, 50 suppliers exhibited for the
first time at INTERMOT in Cologne. The largest contingents came from Italy,
Taiwan, Spain, China and France.

The exhibitors impressed the buyers and bikers at INTERMOT Cologne with
numerous world premieres and new products at eye-catching stands, some of
which were of gigantic proportions. The exhibiting companies were highly
satisfied with the fair. ''We are extremely pleased with INTERMOT''s new venue
in Cologne, in particular with the fantastic location in Hall 7 and the very
high quality of the visitors,'' said Bert Poensgen, Director Sales and
Marketing Motorcycle Suzuki International Europe GmbH and President of the
IVM.

The visitors were thrilled by the spectacular shows and diverse supporting
programme at the fair, which featured events devoted to sports, the life of
bikers and tourism. Besides the exhibitors'' presentations, INTERMOT Cologne
offered visitors an action-packed series of motorcycling events and
activities for the general public to join in that attracted thousands of
motorcycle fans to the racetracks and try-out areas. ''INTERMOT Cologne
successfully combined business, shows and motor sports,'' states Kuhrt.
''Everybody fell under the motorcycle spell. The motorcycling industry has
successfully portrayed itself in all of its diversity.''

The visitors to INTERMOT Cologne 2006 were treated to numerous world
premieres, product innovations and enhanced systems from both the vehicle
segment and the accessories market. ''The industry is dependent on
innovations, technical advancements and the passion for motorcycles and
scooters,'' says Brendicke. ''The new models are innovative, distinctive and
simpler in design. The standards for safety, comfort and performance have
been substantially improved for all classes and types, and the motorbikes
themselves are now more dynamic and comfortable.''

The topic of motorcycles was ever-present during the fair, not only on the
exhibition grounds but also in the media and throughout the city. Print, TV
and radio journalists from all over the world were on hand to report on the
year''s leading trade fair for motorcycles and scooters. One of the
highlights of the fair was the first ecumenical church service for
motorcycle fans in Cologne Cathedral. After the service, the 3,000-plus
participants rode their bikes in an impressive convoy to the exhibition
grounds. Another highlight was the ''Night of the Jumps'', the world
championships for motocross freestylers, which was held in the Kölnarena.

INTERMOT Cologne was attended by numerous German celebrities who are also
big motorbike fans, including Smudo, singer of the German band Die
Fantastischen Vier, the actor Jan-Josef Liefers, Germany''s most recent Pop
Idol Tobias Regner, the rappers from Rapsoul and the popular Cologne
musician Tommy Engel, as well as stars from the motorcycle racing scene. The
celebrity guests took the opportunity to try out the latest motorcycle
models.
