SPEEDWAY 1

COVENTRY clinched the Elite League Knockout Cup by beating Belle Vue 56-40 at Brandon for a 16-point aggregate win.

It was the first time since 1967 that the Bees had lifted the trophy, and only the second time in their history.

Co-boss Peter Oakes said: ''I thought we gave a super performance over the two legs, and it was a collective effort from everyone involved.''

SPEEDWAY 2

TWO former World Champions will clash in the first race at Wolverhampton on Monday as the club stage the hugely popular Banks''s Olymique individual.

Current Wolves star Billy Hamill faces Mark Loram in what promises to be a specatcular opening to the meeting which is run on a unique handicap format.

Promoter Chris Van Straaten hands Monmore debuts to international youngsters Kenneth Hansen, Ricky Kling and Claus Vissing.
