WORLD CHAMPIONS CLASH AT OLYMPIQUE

TWO giants of modern day speedway will clash in the first race of Monday''s Banks''s Olympique individual event at Wolverhampton on Monday (7.30pm).

Current Wolves rider Billy Hamill, world champion in 1996, will face Mark Loram, Britain''s last world number one in 2000, in what promises to be a spectacular opening to the night.

The unique handicap format always provides thrilling racing as riders have no choice but to come from the back if they are to win the title.

Former Monmore favourites David Howe and Adam Skornicki, both riding on loan at Oxford this season, are also included.

Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten hansds a Monmore debut to Kenneth Hansen, Claus Vissing and Ricky Kling. Riders from Coventry, Peterborough and Belle Vue were unable to accept invites because of their rescheduled Craven Shield clash at Kirky Lane on the same night. Reading, Poole and Swindon riders were also taken out of the equation after their semi-final was also re-arranged for Monday.

FANS SHOULD NOTE THE EVENING WILL END WITH WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY''S TRADITIONAL FIREWORK SPECTACULAR.

The line-up with one place to fill is: Billy Hamill, Christian Hefenbrock, Mark Loram, Chris Kerr, Peter Karlsson, David Howe, Lewis Bridger, Kenneth Hansen, William Lawson, TBC, Adam Shields, Ronnie Correy, Claus Vissing, Ricky Kling, Freddie Lindgren, Adam Skornicki. Reserves: Jack Hargreaves, Tai Woffinden.
