SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 10TH OCTOBER
10 October 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SPEEDWAY 1

PETERBOROUGH won the Elite League title after one of the most dramatic comebacks in the sport''s history.

The Panthers beat Reading 48-45 on the night, 95-94 in aggregate, despite being 12-points down with only three races left.

Hans Andersen won his tactical ride for double points in Heat 13 and Panthers then pulled off two maximum 5-1 wins to gatecrash the Reading party and win the league for the first time since 1999.

SPEEDWAY 2

JUBILANT Peterborough manager Trevor Swales was almost lost for words after seeing his team win the title in front of thousands of fans at the East of England Showground.

He said: ''The boys made me age a few more years in the space of one meeting!
''We never gave up and I''m so pleased for everyone connected with the club, it will take quite some time for this to sink in.''

SPEEDWAY 3

COVENTRY duo Scott Nicholls and Chris Harris have been handed permanent wildcard entries into next season''s Grand Prix series.

GP owners Benfield Sports International made the announcement on Sky Sports during the Elite League play-off final at Peterborough.

BSI chief John Poslethwaite said: ''This has to be good news for British fans and we believe both riders fully deserve their place. Chris has really enhanced his reputation this season.''

BELLE Vue speedway legend Chris Morton MBE is one of the new owners of the Manchester track following an out-of-the-blue sale by Tony Mole.
Kidderminster businessman Mole has agreed a deal with Morton and David Gordon, Managing Director of the Highland Group Ltd of Trafford Park, Manchester.
