CHINA TO LAUNCH FIRST MOTORCYCLE AT EXHIBITION
12 October 2006 - International Motorcycle and Scooter Show
Further evidence of booming Chinese presence in UK market as first ever model launch announced for International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham
A strong indication of the steady emergence of Chinese manufacturers in the UK motorcycle market is the announcement that, for the first time, a Chinese manufacturer will be exhibiting and launching a new model at this year’s International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the Birmingham NEC. The show, which takes place from 26th October – 5th November, is a showcase for many of the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers to unveil their latest models, and the news that the Wuyang brand will be appearing for the first time is a clear reflection of the emergence of China as a key player in the UK motorcycle market. China is the biggest motorcycle producer in the world, turning out approximately 50% of the world’s entire supply of motorcycles, and Chinese brands currently account for 12% of the total UK road bike market and more than 25% of registrations up to 125cc. With a Chinese manufacturer now exhibiting at the UK’s largest motorcycle show and third largest consumer show overall, the country’s growth in market-share looks certain to continue to rise. Over the last ten year’s production of motorcycles in the far-east has ballooned as economies have expanded, with research suggesting that 59% of Chinese producers have been formed in the last ten years. UK and Ireland distributor David Silver Spares Ltd will be exhibiting the latest range of Wuyang motorcycles, never before seen in the UK, including four 125cc models and a 50cc scooter at this year’s NEC Show. The International Motorcycle and Scooter Show already showcases the latest bikes from many of the world’s top manufacturers including Honda, Yamaha, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Triumph, Suzuki, KTM and BMW, and the addition of the Wuyang brand further broadens its wide geographical reach. Wuyang will be exhibiting the following models at the show: WY125-16C Robust OHC 125cc 5 speed motorcycle WY125-24B 125cc 4 speed semi-automatic stepthru WY50QT 50cc Twist and go moped scooter WY125 GY2 125cc pit bike WY125-12 Fuel injected 125cc 5 speed motorcycle Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions, Finlay McAllan, commented: “We are very pleased to be the first UK Show to be exhibiting Wuyang. Their presence is another example of the show’s commitment to bringing in new exhibits and ensuring we reflect the evolution of the industry environment. We are always looking to improve the Show and keep it interesting by bringing in a variety of different exhibitors and it is important that China’s growing importance in the industry should be reflected in what the show has to offer.” Managing Director of David Silver Spares Ltd, David Silver comments: “Once known for inexpensive reproductions, China has gained credibility as a motorcycle exporter and over the past few years and people have begun to recognise it as a source of good quality, original motorcycle designs.” Tickets for the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show are now on sale and the public can take advantage of the fantastic advance prices for both adult (£13) and family tickets (£30).
