ALAN Mogridge brought the curtain down in his career in fairytale style by winning the Premier League Fours Championship for Workington.

Mogridge, who joined the Cumbrian club mid-season, won his only ride in the final as reserve and helped the Comets to 23-points.

Somerset, inspired by maximum man Magnus Zetterstrom, were runners-up on 21 with Sheffield third on 16 and King''s Lynn, without skipper Tomas Topinka, fourth on nine.

WORKINGTON hero Alan Mogridge paid tribute to club bosses Graham and Denise Drury and the loyal Comets fans after helping them win the Premier League Fours title.

He said: ''I''d like to thank the management for bringing me to Workington and the fans have been excellent with me.

''It''s a perfect way for me to end my racing career, to win the race which made certain we won a national title was brilliant for me.''

PETERBOROUGH owner Colin Horton has pledged his future to the club - on the eve of their Elite League title decider with Reading at the Showground.

Horton has bought an interest in Oxford and said: ''There is absolutely no way I will be leaving Peterborough and no chance of me having favourites.

''I certainly haven''t spent a lot of money and devoted 18 months of my life to turning Peterborough around for nothing. I am not even close to getting the club to where I want it to be.''
