MOLNAR MANX TAKES THE LANSDOWNE CLASSIC SERIES
10 October 2004 - IHRO
Andy Molnar has secured an amazing double in ‘The Lansdowne Classic Series’ by being both the manufacturer of the winning machine in the Blue Riband 500cc class and as the outright winner of the 350cc class riding another Manx Norton.
Classic Racing in possibly it’s purest form, the ‘Lansdowne Classic Series’ caters for original specification Grand Prix motorcycles of the post-war period to 1963 such as Manx Norton, Matchless G50, AJS 7R, Moto Guzzi and wet-clutch Aermacchi production racers etc. All machines are raced without fairings unless they were only ridden in that trim during the period. The ‘Molnar Manx’ is a faithful replica of the original Manx Norton’s of the day. Duncan Fitchett, riding the very first produced Manx Replica, made sure of the 500cc series with a superb win at Lincolnshire’s Cadwell Park, finishing with an overall 118points. Close behind in the Championship , Gordon Russell (Manx Norton) was second on 92 points and Bill Swallow(Manx Norton) was third with 86 points. Andy Molnar(Manx Norton) headed the 350cc series with 118 points from Grahame Rhodes(Velocette),109 points and Michael Russell(Manx Norton) 102 points. Tom Snow, riding the original Syd Lawton Pre-production Aermacchi 350cc looked likely to secure a run-away 350cc Series win after winning 6 of the first six rounds. Unfortunately he was involved in a racing accident on a modern machine at Scarborough half-way through the year and was sidelined for the remaining 6 events. He will hopefully be fit for the opening race in 2005. 2004 has been a very successful year for the ‘Lansdowne’. With sponsorship from ‘Bonhams’, the auctioneers, and ‘The Classic MotorCycle’ magazine, even more competitors are lining up to join the series in 2005.
