F1 champions all set for Sidecar showdown at Brands Hatch
Kent’s very own FIM World Sidecar Champions, Tim and Tristan Reeves, make a return to domestic action this weekend (7/8 October) when the Bethersden crew take on a capacity entry for the Gerald Gadsden Trophy. The re-introduction of the Gerald Gadsden Trophy has captured the imagination of top International and National crews which is to be staged on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit for the first time. The Gerald Gadsden Trophy Race celebrates its 20th Anniversary at this meeting, with all F1/F2 machines and crews invited. The final on Sunday afternoon will be run on the basis of a secret timekeepers handicap giving a crew with any capacity machine a chance of victory. Tim Reeves has previously won the Gerald Gadsden Trophy both as a driver and twice as a passenger and he makes no secret of his desire to have his and brother Tristan’s names engraved on the silverware. The World Sidecar Champions will have some stiff competition though, especially from reigning European Champions Roger Lovelock and Rick Lawrence. Lovelock, with Jeff Haines in the chair, was victorious in 1994, so will be focused on adding to his trophy cabinet. In 1991, with Andy Peach as passenger, Roger Body clinched the handicap race. This weekend the Maidstone rider, who is flying in the club’s Super Sidecar Championship, will have Mark Cox in the chair and will be hungry for success once more. BMCRC 2006 F1 Champions Simon Gilbert and Carol MacBride could also fancy their chances, as could former British Sidecar Champions Sean and Mark Hegarty. The Suffolk duo are on top form at the moment and will relish another crack at the World Champions. From the F2 entry it’s anyone’s choice. Top of the pile in the club’s F2 championship standings are Londoners Tony Brown/Ian Conn and Lee Eastell/Charlie Richardson, although the likes of Richard Ellis/William Moralee or Belgium crew Mark and Rik Vannieuwenhuyse could also clinch the title. Tickets for this weekend’s BMCRC Championship Finals, featuring the Gerald Gadsden Trophy F1 sidecar showdown at Brands Hatch, are available on the gate priced at £12. Admission free for children aged 12 and under. For more information and a timetable please visit www.brandshatch.co.uk or call 0870 950 9000.
