BIRMINGHAM will stage Premier League speedway next season in a massive boost for the sport.

Kidderminster businessman Tony Mole has had the final seal of approval from the city council''s planning committee for a three-year period.

Racing is due to start at Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium next March after a 20-year absence and the club will adopt their traditional Brummies nickname.

TONY Mole breathed a huge sigh of relief after finally gaining planning permission for speedway at Birmingham.

He said: ''I still believe the amount of time it took to bring the revised application to committee was ridiculous, but it''s all been worth it.

''I am naturally very pleased and I will now make a formal application to the British Speedway Promoters'' Association for membership of next year''s Premier League.''

SPEEDWAY 3

TODD Wiltshire is refusing to answer speculation that Sunday''s Elite League Riders'' Championship at Poole could be his last meeting in England.

Wiltshire has made hugely successful return to the sport with Oxford this season after a two-year retirement.

He said: ''I want to see this season out and see how things develop. I''m winding down but that doesn''t definitely rule me out next year.''

SPEEDWAY 4

COVENTRY booked their place in the Elite League Knockout Cup Final with a resounding 61-31 win over Eastbourne for a 28-point aggregate success.

The Bees will now face Belle Vue in the Final in a mouth-watering repeat of the 2005 Play-Off Final.

Home star Rory Schlein scored 12 (paid 14) despite racing with a broken toe after a domestic accident, and Olly Allen added 11.
