NEW APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
22 September 2006 - Aprilia

MIGUEL GALLUZZI IS THE NEW MANAGER OF THE APRILIA DESIGN DEPARTMENT

Miguel Galluzzi joins the management of Aprilia (a Piaggio Group company). As head of the Aprilia Design Department, Galluzzi will report directly to Aprilia Brand Manager Leo Francesco Mercanti

Miguel Galluzzi was born in Buenos Aires in 1959 and is a graduate of the Pasadena Art Center’s College of Design.
Galluzzi began his career as a designer for Opel in 1986, where he worked on the Corsa and the Omega. In 1989 he joined Honda as a motorcycle designer, and was given the task of following the latest European style trends in addition to working on the 600 cc single project.
In 1989 Galluzzi joined the Cagiva Group, and gained international fame as the man behind the 1992 Ducati Monster, a bike that is still one of the icons of motorcycle design. Other designs by Galluzzi that have had a significant impact include the Ducati 900 SS and 944 ST, the Cagiva Planet, Raptor and Xtra-Raptor, and all the Husqvarnas from ’97 on.
The tremendous inspiration and personality that all Galluzzi’s designs exude stem from his infinite passion for the world of motorcycling, a passion that has been in his family for generations. Galluzzi’s grandfather rode for Harley Davidson in the 1920s and his father, also a racer, celebrated his birth by winning the “Ferruccio Gilera” Trophy in Buenos Aires.

Aprilia’s Brand Manager, Leo Francesco Mercanti, commented as follows on Galluzzi’s nomination. “The arrival of Miguel Galluzzi is an extremely important step in our development of different competences within Aprilia. Aprilia already boasts a complete and versatile technical staff, perfectly capable of rising to the challenges facing us. Our strategy now is to achieve a more extensive and more aggressive coverage of the main segments of today’s motorcycle market through a range of easily identifiable products, advanced technology and innovation, and unmistakable style. Ever since its earliest beginnings, Aprilia has always stood out for its different and original styling. In this context, Galluzzi, who is not just a creative genius but a passionate motorcyclist, is without a doubt the right man to guide the Aprilia design team to new heights of excellence.”

Galluzzi gave the following comment on his new position. “Joining the Aprilia team is going to be a great creative stimulus for me. I was well aware that joining Aprilia meant joining a dynamic and high-tech company within the context of one of Italy’s top industrial groupings. What I was not prepared for was the infinite passion that everybody at Aprilia shows, from the youngest apprentice to top management. Anybody with Latin blood like me cannot fail to appreciate the importance of this passion. I’m convinced we can achieve great things together.”
