SPEEDWAY 1

BELLE Vue got in the mood for next week''s Knockout Cup showdown at Poole by thrashing powerful Reading 59-34 in their last Elite League match of the season.

It meant the Aces finished fifth in the table, an agonising point away from the play-offs. Reading now face Swindon at home on Monday in the semi-finals.

Aces boss Ian Thomas said: ''We were down after the meeting at Wolverhampton on Monday but now the boys are back on song.''

SPEEDWAY 2

COVENTRY boss Colin Pratt has blasted rival boss Chris Van Straaten.

The Wolves owner pointed to the cancellation of the meeting between the sides at Brandon in August by saying: ''It was rained off in glorious sunshine when they were below full strength.''

Pratt stormed: ''I am furious and find it disgraceful that our sport''s Vice-Chairman has reacted in this way after we had beaten them fair and square on Tuesday.''
