20 September 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 COVENTRY will travel to Peterborough or Reading next Monday after qualifying for the Elite League play-offs. The Bees beat neighbours Wolverhampton 51-42 at Brandon to keep alive their hopes of a successful title defence. Boss Peter Oakes said: ''We were written off for the play-offs, but we''re still there and although we have an away draw that title is still in our grasp and we don''t want to let it go.'' SPEEDWAY 2 MAGNUS Karlsson has been given compassionate leave by Wolverhampton to be at the birth of his first child in Sweden. Karlsson will miss next week''s Craven Shield meetings with Ipswich and Eastbourne and won''t return to England until next month. Club owner Chris Van Straaten said: ''It''s obviously an exciting time for Magnus and his partner and we feel we have made the correct decision. I think it''s been on his mind for a while.''
