CROMWELL PURSUES OTHER MARKETS
14 June 2004 - Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd

Production of UK’s only surviving major motorcycle helmet to cease but the brand will continue through bespoke licensing.

Production of Cromwell motorcycle helmets, which have been manufactured in the UK since 1926, will be phased out on 31st July 2004. Cromwell is the only surviving brand of motorcycle helmet to be manufactured in Britain in any volume, most of their UK competitors having closed down in the 1980’s.

However, it is a British success story that is the reason for the withdrawal of Cromwell motorcycle helmets. Helmet Integrated Systems (HISL), who own the Cromwell brand, are recognised as a world leader in the development and manufacture of protective helmets with built-in communications and respiratory systems. Their helmet systems are used worldwide by military and civil aircrews, industry, fire and emergency services. Development of a range of high technology helmets, part of an ongoing strategy to expand both the UK and overseas markets, has resulted in 3 significant areas of opportunity.

1. Cromwell™ ECHO is a naval fire fighting helmet, already standard issue throughout the Royal Navy and now used in Kuwait, Romania, Chile, Bangladesh and Brunei.

2. The Alpha™ Eagle is a new lightweight civil aircrew helmet generating sales in the USA, Australia and Europe.

3. Pureflo ESM™ is a unique Powered Respiratory helmet employing Electronic Systems Management, providing all in one head, eye, face and respiratory protection. Already launched in Europe, Pureflo ESM™ will be approved and available for sale in North America early in 2005.

Cromwell helmets will continue to be produced for certain overseas Police forces and spares support for both trade and public will be provided. The factory has already cleared stocks of it’s high-tech Vector helmet and with supplies of the popular Classic & Spectra open-face models dwindling rapidly, customers are advised to “get one while you can”.
