SPEEDWAY UPDATE
19 September 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
WOLVERHAMPTON skipper Peter Karlsson is having intensive treatment at a knee clinic in preparation for tonight''s mouthwatering midlands derby at Coventry (8pm). Karlsson was in severe pain during last night''s win over Belle Vue and visibly slowed in the latter stages. Now he is taking advice from specialists in Droitwich - and he''s determined to ride. Promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''Peter is desperate to ride and he''s hoping today''s treatment will ease the pain for him. ''He was in a lot of discomfort last night but his determination to ride for us cannot be questioned.'' Wolverhampton need to win tonight''s meeting to keep alive their slim hopes of reaching the play-offs. A win for Coventry would see them through. COVENTRY: Scott Nicholls, Billy Janniro, Oliver Allen, Chris Harris, Rory Schlein, Martin Smolinski, Morten Risager. WOLVERHAMPTON: Peter Karlsson, Ronnie Correy, Christian Hefenbrock, Billy Hamill, Fredrik Lindgren, William Lawson, Magnus Karlsson. == SAM Ermolenko has announced his retirement - 23-years after making his British debut. The 1993 world champion will stage a farewell meeting at his former club Wolverhampton next March after a glittering career. He said: ''It''s going to be a big occasion. Everyone knows I don''t do things by half, I always try and do things properly and I want to ensure everyone has a great time.''
