PETERBOROUGH HOSTS OVER 30,000
21 September 2006 - BMF
Benefiting from mild weather and brilliant sunshine on Sunday, the BMF’s Tail End event proved a winner over the weekend, attracting 31,551 to this popular event.
BMF TAIL END - 16th & 17th September, East of England Showground, Peterborough Now in its ninth year at the East of England Showground, attendance was up 3% on last year. Staged as the close to the BMF’s annual events programme, Tail End always has plenty of special offers from traders selling end of season lines, so much so that the specially provided cash point machines ran out of money twice during the weekend! Tail End is to many people a mini-BMF Show so all the ingredients that make that such a massive success were there; not just hundreds of traders and live bands but an arena packed with events. Jason Smyth''s Stunts and Moto-Stunts International put on spectacular shows throughout both days while the Moped Enduro, always a favourite, was won by team Barneys with team ‘Trail and Error’ taking the BMF 2006 Championship. Vintage Speedway provided plenty of entertainment too with bikes dating back to 1927 (and some riders likewise!) and provided a neat contrast to round nine of the Silkolene Short Track UK championships. Seen at the BMF Show for the first time in May, this new championship series has proven a real hit with the crowds and Darren Pearson on his 650 Husaberg was on top form to win the day while Pete Boast on a 450 Honda took the Thunderbike laurels. Taking advantage of the fantastic weather and a hit for scores of people was the opportunity to take their own ride as a test ride on BMW’s new R1200 R naked roadster boxer twin or one of the many other current models on display. Live band entertainment covering all tastes in music from rock through pop to blues went down well with the public and campers alike, all helping to ensure that the musical blues was the only variety of blues to be found!
