COMMITTEE MEETINGS HELD LAST WEEK The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) held the first meetings of the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee and AMA Supermoto Rules Committee at its corporate headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio this week. Participants in the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee meeting included team owner Ed Adkins, Pat Alexander of American Suzuki Motor Corp., rider Shawn Baer, rider/team owner Chris Carr, tuner Greg Crow, Kevin Crowther of AMA Pro Racing, technical consultant George Halyak, Michael Lloyd representing Aprilia, tuner Dale Lineweaver, Anne Paluso of Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Kurt Nicoll of KTM North America, and former rider/promoter Gene Romero. Keith McCarty of Yamaha Motor Corp., was not in attendance. Additionally, AMA and AMA Pro Racing staff members who attended included Patti DiPietro, Bruce Bober, Kerry Graeber, Doug Neubauer, Ken Rogers and Ken Saillant. AMA attorney Tim Owens was also in attendance. The meeting was chaired by AMA CEO DiPietro. Participants in the AMA Supermoto Rules Committee meeting included Pat Alexander of American Suzuki Motor Corp., Kevin Crowther of AMA Pro Racing, Broc Glover of Dunlop Tires, Troy Lee of Troy Lee Designs, Keith McCarty of Yamaha Motor Corp., Kurt Nicoll of KTM North America, Rick Panettieri representing Aprilia, Vic Sibilla of Finnegan Erickson Associates and Danny Walker of American Supercamp. Mike Preston of Kawasaki Motors Corp., was not in attendance. Additionally, AMA and AMA Pro Racing staff members who attended included Patti DiPietro, Darrin Gauvin, Kerry Graeber, Joel Grover, Doug Neubauer and Ken Rogers. AMA attorney Tim Owens was also in attendance as was guest Gavin Trippe. The meeting was chaired by AMA Pro Racing Vice President, Director of Communications Graeber. This concludes the first round of meetings for each of the AMA’s new Rules Committees. Meetings of the committees representing AMA Superbike and AMA Motocross/Supercross were held in July and September, respectively. All rules voted upon by each committee will now be reviewed by the AMA Racing Committee before being elevated to the AMA Board of Directors for final ratification. The board is expected to meet in early October. Approved rules will be implemented beginning with the 2007 racing seasons.
