SPEEDWAY 1

GLASGOW co-promoter Gordon Pairman has withdrawn his interest in taking over at Elite League Belle Vue.

Pairman had been in talks with Aces owner Tony Mole, but has now elected not to pursue the matter further.

Mole said: ''He gave no reason for his decision but thanked me for the way I handed our discussions. We will now go forward and complete the season as planned.''

SPEEDWAY 2

FORMER three-times British Champion Andy Smith celebrates his Testimonial at parent club Belle Vue on Sunday.

Smith, an ex-Grand Prix rider, has been on loan at Reading this year but started his career with the Aces way back in 1982.

He said: ''I''ve always had a good response from Belle Vue fans and it''s the right place for me to be having my Testimonial.''
