SECOND FOR KALLIO IN AUSTRALIA
17 September 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Red Bull KTM rider Mika Kallio of Finland crossed the line in second place in the 14th race of the season after starting from his fourth pole position.

RR WCH 125 14th Round

Mika gave everything over the whole race distance fending off attacks from behind and continually but unsuccessfully trying to overtake Bautista who was the only rider in front of him. He maintained his excellent second place while his teammate Julian Simon of Spain, who was riding in the pursuing group, absolved one of his best races yet. The amiable Spaniard consistantly changed position during the entire race and finished a very happy fifth.

Red Bull KTM Junior Michael Ranseder of Austria finished in 20th place in his first ever race on the Phillip Island circuit.

The 16 year-old Australian youngster Blake Leigh-Smith, who replaced the injured Red Bull KTM Junior Stefan Bradl, finished his third GP race in 27th position. He previously rode in Phillip Island (2005) and Donnington (2006).

Mika Kallio # 36 Red Bull KTM GP 125 – 2nd Place
“Yes again, just like in Malaysia, Bautista was a little bit too fast for us today. My bike was very fast and I was pushing hard, but we were not really fast enough. Now as the championship is decided and I’m second in the world standings right now, this is also my goal to finish the season in this position. “

Julian Simon # 60 Red Bull KTM GP 125 – 5th Place
“I’m really happy with my result today as I qualified only 10th on the grid and the times were very close. Yesterday I thought I would have to try to stay with the front group but wasn’t sure if I could do it. But today my KTM was really very, very fast and I had some fair, but hard fights. Fifth today is a good result for me here at Phillip Island.”

Michael Ranseder # 9 Red Bull KTM Junior Team– 20th Place
“I had a good start from my 30th place and I was able to make up eight places. It was really hot in the group that I was riding in and there were lots of one-on-one battles. At the end I was in front but I couldn’t get away from the others, then Zanetti caught me right on the line.”

Blake Leigh-Smith # 67 Red Bull KTM Junior Team – 27th Place
“The race went well for me until I ran off the track in lap six. There I lost about 15 seconds before coming back. I managed to stay on the bike but had to go wide out onto grass. That’s why I’m a bit disappointed with the result. I did improve my time by more than a second compared to the qualifying. Overall I have to say I had a terrific weekend with the Red Bull KTM Juniors and I would like to thank them for the chance they are giving me. I’m happy to go to Motegi/Japan next week. A new track is waiting for me there and again I have a lot to learn. I’m more than happy to go. .“
