WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
19 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

WOLVERHAMPTON are four matches away from taking the Elite League title - starting on Monday night.

The Monmore men face Oxford in the first eliminator of the play-offs and if they are successful they will be at home again next Monday against either Ipswich or Eastbourne. The winners of that tie will then face Poole - who finished top of the regular league standings - over two legs in the grand final to decide the champions. Oxford include Monmore Green track specialist Greg Hancock, who has often been a thorn in their side down the years with his former clubs Coventry and Cradley Heath. And in both Niels Kristian Iversen and Rafal Dobrucki they have riders at reserve with promising futures in the sport. Wolves have again named brilliant British youngster Simon Stead at reserve but there remains a major doubt over Freddie Lindgren who has been having treatment on a thigh injury sustained last week and he faces a late fitness test. Wolves boss Peter Adams said: ''This is what we''ve been working for all season, to reach the play-offs was the aim of every Elite League club back in March. ''We''re in a good position and we''re quite happy to ride through a couple of eliminators rather than sit and wait for the final to find out who we''re riding against. ''Oxford have ridden very well in the past week or so, they have come into a nice run of form and therefore we need to be on top form. It promises to be a very tense match but we''re hopeful we can pull through and take a step towards the final.''
WOLVES: Mikael Max, Freddie Lindgren, Sam Ermolenko, Daniel Nermark R/R, David Howe, Adam Skornicki, Simon Stead.
OXFORD: Sebastian Ulamek R/R, Travis McGowan, Rafal Dobrucki, Ryan Fisher, Greg hancock, Jonas Davidsson, Niels Kristian Iversen.
