BIRMINGHAM SPEEDWAY PLANNING VERDICT
14 September 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway

TONY Mole insists the prospect of racing at Birmingham''s Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium next season is ''questionable''.
Birmingham City Council''s planning committee have proposed a three-year consent for the sport in the second city subject to conditions similar to a previous application in 1987 - plus the banning of airhorns.
But the matter has now been refered back to the council offices for a document to be drawn up for Mole to sign - and the Kidderminster-based businessman is unclear how long that will take.
He said: ''At this moment in time I remain doubtful as to whether everything can be sorted for next season.
''My experience in dealing with this council is that they are very slow, some of my letters have even been ignored.
''I made this second application on November 9 last year and it''s now September - it''s taken that long for the matter to be dealt with this time.
''Unless the necessary issues are finalised by this time next month then I really don''t see it happening next year.
''I''m not going to mess the British Speedway Promoters'' Association about. I have until the AGM in November to apply for league membership and I will not, under any circumstances, be seeking an extension to that deadline.
''Whilst I appreciate the planning committee have now agreed in principle for permission to be granted, I remain seriously concerned about the timescale. Apart from refusal, a deferred decision was the worst I could have got.
''If we cannot run speedway at Birmingham next year then I really cannot say how I would feel about things beyond that. It''s gone on long enough for me.''
