BIKERS ARE BACK IN COLOGNE
20 August 2006 - Intermot Muenchen
INTERMOT Cologne 2006: Superlative supporting programme
The bikers are back in town! From 11th to 15th October 2006, INTERMOT, the world’s leading trade fair for motorbikes and scooters, will take place once again in Cologne. The sounds of engines, the smell of petrol and, of course, the motorcycle enthusiasts in attendance will all provide just the right sort of biker feeling in Cologne. The fair offers manufacturers the ideal platform for presenting their products and innovations not only to the international specialist trade, but also to motorcycling fans from all over Europe. But INTERMOT isn’t a traditional product fair. It is instead a trade fair that encompasses a variety of events. As well as the exhibitors’ presentations, the event also offers visitors many impressive shows and the opportunity to experience the world of motorbikes at first hand. In contrast to other trade fairs, the supporting events are not concentrated in one place but rather spread across many “hot spots” according to subject. INTERMOT Cologne 2006 — motorcycle action all the time, and everywhere, on the whole exhibition site. Outdoor action at INTERMOT Cologne 2006 Supermoto — That’s racing Real racing on real race tracks! The final heats of the German Supermoto Championship will take place this year on 14th and 15th October on the INTERMOT racing track within the framework of the Prestige Supermoto racing series. The roughly 1,000-metre-long course guarantees all kinds of excitement and action when the top international riders give it their all and compete for the championship title. Stunt & Roll But not only supermoto fans will have a great time. The international stunt scene won’t be missing the big INTERMOT Cologne 2006 either. Along with many others, the stunt world champion Christian Pfeiffer, the Cologne native Oliver Ronzheimer and the specialist Dirk Manderbach will thrill the audience with breathtaking jumps. Days of Thunder When the smoke starts pouring out of the roaring engines, it’ll be Kevin Carmichael and Reiner Schwarz on their wild Buells and Harleys showing that the V2s are good for more than just the American way of riding. Carmichael is riding a “very British” Triumph, and Elmar Geulen (aka “Mr. Hayabusa”) will perform incredible burnouts with his Turbo Hayabusa that delivers over 300 hp. Asphalt Cowboys The slogan of the day seems to be “until the asphalt burns” when the racing track is converted to a drag strip and pros like Herman Jolink show what their machines are made of. Flying Men The freestylers are looking forward to INTERMOT Cologne as well. The action team UPFORCE will thrill the audience with breathtaking jumps initiated head first with a handstand on the handlebars at heights of almost 20 metres. And that’s not all: On 14th October 2006, 12 of the best riders of the International Freestyle Motocross Federation (IFMXF) will compete for world cup points during the “Night of the Jumps” in the Kölnarena as part of the FMX World Championship. Bikers’ Camp The riders and bikes can be inspected up close outside of the racing track, too. The bikers’ camp in Hall 5.2, which is open to visitors, and the adjacent open spaces provide a unique opportunity to get a glimpse behind the scenes and experience real biker feeling at first hand. Test the Best The visitors to INTERMOT Cologne are encouraged to not only watch but also to take part themselves in this superlative event. Assuming they have a valid motorcycle licence, they can test their ability and feel like professional bikers. About 200 new bikes are available for this purpose. Trial & Error The trial course isn’t just about the highest speed. The thing that counts here is skill — the mastery of one’s machine and climbing techniques and abilities. With expert instruction, visitors learn whether they are in control of their machines. Hard Enduro track Those not satisfied with the finest asphalt and shiny hall floors can really make the dirt fly on the off-road terrain of the Enduro track at INTERMOT Cologne. Travel Enduro track Bikers planning their next tour can test the current travel Enduros on the off-road site set up specifically for this purpose at INTERMOT Cologne. ADAC Biker Cup Visitors who want to measure themselves against other riders can enter the ADAC Biker Cup. A brand-new bike will be offered as a daily prize. Quad track Those who would like to try out something different need look no further than the quad track. These four-wheeled pieces of leisure equipment are the ideal alternative to the motorcycle! TÜV Rheinland beginners’ track First dream — then test! From scooters and shoppers to off-road bikes, together with the TÜV Rheinland Group we’re offering beginners and those returning to the sport the chance to test bikes delivering between 50 and 125 cubic centimetres on our track. Testing without a bike licence and the children’s motorcycle paradise Children and motorcycle enthusiasts without a licence also get their money’s worth at INTERMOT Cologne. At the “RIDE NOW” track, visitors can get their first feel for a motorized bike action under expert supervision. Children can feel like the grown-ups and do their rounds on special junior bikes. Action, safety and more INTERMOT Cologne combines action and safety in a breathtaking way. On a large activity area, testers will demonstrate drag tests that offer excitement and also make people think. Biker camp To make sure visitors can get a good look at the fair and take part in the supporting programme, the BVDM is organising its motorcycle camp again this year. Here, motorcyclists can set up their tents and park their trailers. Special indoor shows at INTERMOT Cologne 2006 In addition to the breathtaking professional events and the track where visitors can try out bikes for themselves, INTERMOT Cologne will feature a broad range of impressive special shows this year as well. Special touring show in the Tourism Centre Touring motorbikes help you discover the world. They allow you to “drive” into people’s hearts while exploring other countries and continents. They transform every trip into an adventure and every destination into the beginning of another fantastic journey. In Hall 4, the magazine TOURENFAHRER will be presenting more than 40 touring motorbikes of all brands, models and equipment versions, which visitors will be able to see, touch and discover at first hand on the test track next to Hall 4. Interested visitors will learn things worth knowing from and about world travel pros, travel journalists and photographers, leading tour outfitters, navigation suppliers and experts, specialized tour providers and travel offerings around the world. In addition, there is a track for travel Enduros and a stage. Special quad show Likewise in Hall 4, right next to the quad track, quads and ATVs will be set up. INTERMOT design competition special show & Walk of Fashion The INTERMOT design competition is taking place in Hall 4/5 and deals with the question of what motorcycles and motorcycle clothing might look like in the future. Fashion is also dealt with in the Boulevard North. Here, the latest in motorcycle clothing will be presented on the catwalk. Special show for beginners/young people In the VIVA LA MOPPED area in Hall 5, freewheeling talk and music is the order of the day. Tobias Regner, winner of the most recent series of the German “Pop Idol” TV programme, Turbonegro, kettcar and the boys from Rapsoul will really get the crowd going. And other music celebrities have announced that they will attend, too. Who will be at the INTERMOT Cologne when can be seen in advance of the trade fair on the website. An absolute must for our young visitors! PHOTOKINA / INTERMOT photo competition The PHOTOKINA / INTERMOT photo competition is a highlight for all photography and motorcycle fans. In Hall 7, the 40 best photos will be exhibited, and the winner for the best photo from the motorcycle field will win the exciting 660 cm³ Yamaha MT 03. The exhibition will also be on show at photokina from 26th September to 1st October 2006. Display (Globe of Speed) In the “Globe of Speed” in Hall 8, the performers will demonstrate how you can ride in a globe only six metres in diameter. A breathtaking spectacle and nothing for weak nerves — especially when a volunteer stands in the middle of the sphere. Special show of classic vehicles/motorbike history In Hall 9, the visitor makes a trip into the past and has the chance to admire milestones of motorcycle history. In addition, journalists from the magazine MOTORRAD CLASSIC will be on hand in Hall 9 to present milestones of biking history and talk with visitors. Furthermore, the unique historical motocross bikes shown by MSC Freier Grund will provide a wonderful nostalgic atmosphere. Special shows: Customizing and Sports Hall 10 will become the ultimate mecca of the customizing season 2006/07. In the Cologne Custom Competition Cup, the best rebuilt sports bike will be chosen, and in the Hall of Fame, the various racers, choppers, streetfighters and scooters will fascinate visitors in a breathtaking exhibition. In addition, the hall is dominated by the theme of racing. Championship contests will be held, and Trial/Enduro performers will show what they can do. Model workshop The workshop centre of the Motor Vehicle Academy in Schweinfurt with its integrated model workshop is an absolute must for trade visitors. The old-timer restoration, the exhaust emissions test and the engine and chassis diagnosis will provide many new ideas and initiatives. Further information is available at www.intermot-cologne.com
