FRONT ROW FOR AOYAMA
09 September 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

The 24-year-old KTM “Hero“ Hiroshi Aoyama describes the Malaysian racing circuit of Sepang as one of the most challenging on the Grand Prix calendar.

The two long straights, four tight, and 10 fast corners make it very difficult for riders to find a fluid rhythm. Tropical temperatures and extremely high humidity add to the difficulties.

The second qualifying session for the 250 class was cancelled after heavy storms on Saturday made riding on the circuit impossible. The starting lineup is therefore calculated according to results in the first qualifying session. For the Red Bull KTM GP 250 riders it means that Hiroshi Aoyama starts in place three on the first row with Manuel Poggialli two rows behind at place 11.

Hiroshi Aoyama #4 Red Bull KTM GP 250 — 3rd Position — 2’08.556
“As we lost one practice session today we are not 100 percent finished with our work for tomorrow’s race. We still have possibilities to improve our bike, but anyway the development done from yesterday to today did deliver some positive solutions, not only from chassis but also with the engine. We will use the 20 minute warm up to find out as much as possible and concentrate on a good race for the best possible result.”

Manuel Poggiali # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 250 — 11th Position — 2’10.045 “During yesterdays qualifying I crashed over the front at a corner entry when I was pushing very fast. As this happened towards the end of the session, I was running out of time to change to my second bike.”

Conditions for 1st Qualifying on Friday
Circuit: dry /44°C
Air Temperature: 33°C
Humidity: 68 %
