SUPERBIKE TENTH ROUND
08 September 2006 - Foggy PETRONAS Racing

Encouraging opening day for FPR in Germany

Foggy PETRONAS Racing riders Craig Jones and Steve Martin produced a solid opening day’s performance at the tenth round of the Superbike World Championship in Germany.

Craig made giants strides forward in the afternoon session, bouncing back from a freak early crash to better his morning time by three seconds and finish in 19th place.

Steve also improved on his time set at the recent test at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz circuit to finish the day in 11th position, with championship leader Troy Bayliss once again setting the pace.

Craig said: “I knew what times I could do on my settings from the test here and I came close to that in the afternoon. I took three seconds off my time from the morning just by circulating, because my confidence was knocked by the crash in the morning. There was a problem with the rear tyre, which looked brand new even after two laps and felt greasy. The rear wheel speed shot into the air when I got onto the gas onto the start-finish straight and I was thrown over the top. I landed on my knee, which I have injured before, so that was sore for the afternoon. But, if that does not get worse overnight, I think I have a good chance of going faster and challenging for Superpole.”

Steve said: “It has been a good day and everything has gone smoothly. I was happy to do a 1:39 for the first time here and I am pretty sure that I will be able to go quicker tomorrow morning. We lowered the bike in the afternoon to slow the weight transfer down a bit and that worked well. We only really tried one tyre, which also puts us in a good position for tomorrow.”
