SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS
18 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SHEFFIELD Speedway stage the biggest event on the Premier League calendar on Sunday. with a bumper crowd expected.

The Premier League Riders'' Championship features the top rider from every club and home hopes rest on the shoulders of Andre Compton. But Workington''s former Sheffield riders Carl Stonehewer and Simon Stead are also strongly fancied to take the title, which will be decided on a win-or-bust grand final. Other track experts include Isle of Wight''s Craig Boyce, who scored 17-points when the Islanders visited Owlerton on Premier League duty on Thursday. And his fellow Aussie Craig Watson has been a regular Owlerton visitor this season when making guest appearances for the Pirtek Tigers in the absence of injured skipper Sean Wilson. Home rider Compton said: ''It would be lovely to reward the fans and I know I can do it. I just hope I''m in that final and we''ll see what happens, but it''s been a tough year for the club and I would like to think I can provide the fans with something to cheer about. ''But you have to look forward to it knowing it''s going to be a very, very tough meeting indeed and all I can do is give it my very best shot, I promise the Sheffield fans that.''
