Elite League: READING 58 WOLVES 37

WOLVERHAMPTON remain nine points off the play-off places after a disappointing night at Smallmead where they lost to Reading by a 21-point margin.

The Bulldogs recovered from their home defeat by Coventry on Monday with a powerful performance which saw Wolves limited to just three heat winners all night.

The partnership between Greg Hancock and Janusz Kolodziej proved particularly profitable for the hosts as it collected 5-1s in its first two outings, including Heat 1 with Peter Karlsson unusually on the receiving end.

Karlsson was Wolves'' first race winner in Heat 5, but a further Bulldogs maximum in six extended their lead to 12 points, at which point manager Peter Adams made his first tactical move.

Billy Hamill won Heat 7 for double points, the race being awarded on the third lap when Ronnie Correy fell having been overtaken by Mark Lemon, and William Lawson then rode an excellent race to hold off Kolodziej and take a fine win in Heat 8.

However, the Bulldogs picked up the pace again with a 5-1 in Heat 9 as Charlie Gjedde came past Lawson and Fredrik Lindgren, and the lead was up to 15 points before Karlsson took second place to Zagar on his tactical ride.

Karlsson ended Hancock''s hopes of a maximum with second place behind Zagar in Heat 13 but Reading were still extending their lead and finished up as decisive winners.

READING: Matej Zagar 14, Travis McGowan 10+2, Greg Hancock 10, Mark Lemon 9+2, Charlie Gjedde 8+1, Janusz Kolodziej 7+2, Ben Barker 0.

WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 12, Billy Hamill 12, William Lawson 6+1, Magnus Karlsson 3+1, Fredrik Lindgren 3, Christian Hefenbrock 1+1, Ronnie Correy 0.
