SNETTERTON WELCOMES SUPERMOTARD STARS
08 September 2006 - MotorSport Vision
Norfolk to host season finale of unique bike sport
This weekend, Supermotard returns to Snetterton where, on a specially designed track, local starts will take on top riders from the UK and Europe in the final round of the Moto GB Championship. This dynamic all-action bike sport is growing all the time with UK rider numbers swelling annually, with hundreds of competitors heading for Norfolk venue for this fantastic event. This summer series has been designed so that all four classes have two Championship races in addition to their practice and qualifying, followed by a Super Final for the top riders in each class at the end of the day. A technically challenging track layout at Snetterton will allow spectators to get close to the action at the specially designed off-road sections the familiar vantage points around the normal tarmac circuit. The special track layout will feature the infamous Bomb Hole as their first challenge, followed by the adverse cambered Coram Bend before heading into Russell Bend. This is where riders will display their ‘backing in’ skills and will be a good vantage point for spectators to see riders hit the specially prepared off-road section, which incorporates a tabletop jump. Competitors will enter the power sliding blacktop section at the Esses before doing it all again. Regional interest will focus on Matthew Pope from Fakenham. 23-year-old Pope has just recovered from a broken wrist and in this season finale will be on board one of the latest Aprilia V-twin 450s. At his local track Pope is sure to be amongst the front-runners. The former Rookie 450 Champion has been riding Hondas for the last two seasons but now the local design engineer is looking to make the grade on Italian machinery. On purpose-built supermotard machines, riders with backgrounds from motocross, road racing, speedway and grasstrack racing have transformed their talents and become true supermotard riders. As well as these converts, many legends in their own field have also entered this event. French National Supermotard Champion Mickael Zammit, former British Enduro Champion Ady Smith, and former British Superstock Road Racer Nigel Scott being just some of the top names on the entry list. For something a little bit different, make sure you’re at Snetterton this weekend for spectacular two-wheeled entertainment! Tickets for the Moto GB Supermotard Championship at Snetterton will be available on the gate and are priced at £12. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
