SHEFFIELD SPEEDWAY
16 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SHEFFIELD Pirtek Tigers pulled off a superb achievement in reaching the Premier League play-offs with a 55-39 win over Isle of Wight Islanders at Owlerton on Thursday.

The club can feel proud of their efforts as they have been without inspirational skipper Sean Wilson for the entire league programme - and they lost Andrew Moore to a broken leg last month. Wilson''s deputy as skipper, Andre Compton, was in inspirational form to lead by example with a 14-point haul and he also went close to breaking the Owlerton track record. The timing of his performance was immaculate as he prepares for the Premier League Riders'' Championship on his home track on Sunday. Former Aussie Grand Prix star Craig Boyce - despite Compton''s efforts - managed to score a hefty 17 for the visitors, having started with three straight wins, while Jason Bunyan revelled on the Owlerton racebowl and finished with 14.

TIGERS: A. Compton 14, R. Ashworth 13, B. Wilson 11+1, G. Stancl 7, R. Hall 5+3, J. Birkinshaw 5+1.

ISLANDERS: C. Boyce 17, J. Bunyan 14+1, J. Parsons 3, K. Marsh 2+1, G. Phillips 2, R. Morton 1.
