BEST RESULTS YET FOR KIRKHAM
30 August 2006 - Jon Kirkham

Scuderia Stellare rider Jon Kirkham had his best point’s haul of the season at Cadwell Park today with a top ten finish in the first race followed by another top fifteen result in the second.

Back on his familiar Suzuki GSX-R the young Derbyshire rider was feeling a lot more comfortable which was reflected in his qualifying performance where he recorded the fifteenth quickest time at the Lincolnshire circuit.

Making a slow start in the first race Kirkham quickly gained ground and become embroiled in a tough battle with Ben Wilson as the two made their way through the pack.

With tyre choice being critical the team opted for cut slicks which were the right call as he got past Wilson mid-race.

Kirkham then set about chasing down Dean Thomas and was gradually closing in on the Hawk Kawasaki rider before running out of laps as he settled for a well deserved ninth place finish as the second Suzuki home - equalling his best result of the season.

In the second race the Scuderia Stellare rider made a much better start completing the first lap in fourteenth place where he was eventually to finish after a race long tussle with Ollie Bridewell.

Speaking after the second race team spokesperson Chris Johnson said that Kirkham’s results demonstrated what the team could do when given the chance.

“We’ve had our best results of the season today and it just goes to show that given the opportunity the team can run in the top ten. Scuderia Stellare is very pleased with Jon’s performance today and we’ll be looking to Silverstone for more of the same.”

The next round of the British Superbike Championship is at the Silverstone circuit on the 17th September.
