WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
16 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

WOLVERHAMPTON will face Oxford in the first eliminator of the Skybet Elite League play-offs at Monmore Green on Monday (7.30pm).

The Silver Machine, league champions three years ago, booked their place with a win over Peterborough in mid-week. Wolves, meanwhile, are looking to regain the title they won two seasons ago when they finished second in the regular Elite League standings before beating Eastbourne in a thrilling final. Ironically they have finished second again to book a home draw and if they beat Oxford they will have another home tie the following Monday to decide who meets Poole in the final. Wolverhampton promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''The five qualifiers for the play-offs are now set in stone and Oxford have qualified on merit. ''It''s sure to be a tough meeting because they have riders who can get around our track confortably.''
