WIN FOR HOWARTH AT CADWELL
30 August 2006 - M.A.R
M.A.R rider Michael Howarth bounced back from the disappointment of his first DNF of the season to secure his first Superbike Cup win in the second race at Cadwell Park.
The Lancashire rider started the weekend well securing a top twenty slot in qualifying with a time just under his nearest privateer rival. In the first race Howarth made what is now becoming one of his typical lightening starts slipping past a number of riders before settling into a three way battle with Howie Mainwaring and Nick Medd. Riding on wet front tyres with an intermediate rear Howarth high-sided while pushing to catch the second placed Cup rider within sight of the finish. With eight stitches in his elbow as a result of the accident Howarth was still able to make another good start and kept his head down riding his way to his first Superbike Cup win in what was a very mature performance. The win also put Howarth tantalisingly close to his first overall championship points missing out by just one position. The result further cements Howarth’s fifth place position within the Superbike Cup Championship with fourth place well within his grasp which he and the team are very pleased with considering he missed the first four rounds of the season. In the Superstock Cup Richard Marchant continued to make progress at the daunting Lincolnshire circuit improving by more a half second between qualifying sessions which unfortunately was not enough on the day to see him make it onto the grid. With the 2006 season heading into its last few rounds the next event for the M.A.R team is at the Silverstone circuit on the 17th September where Marchant in particular has some experience so the team are looking for good things from the young Essex
