WOLVERHAMPTON MATCH REPORT
25 August 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
EASTBOURNE 45 WOLVES 45 PARRYS International Wolves performed a remarkable fightback to snatch a potentially crucial draw at Eastbourne. They trailed by eight points with three heats to go but with Peter Karlsson, Fredrik Lindgren and Billy Hamill in tremendous form they conjured up a fighting finish which also secured the aggregate bonus point. It was the Eagles who made a flying start, with 5-1s in Heats 2 and 3 putting them in control as Hamill was re-passed by David Norris in the latter race - but it was not a sign of things to come. The heat-leaders then dominated the race wins, finishing with nine to the Eagles'' six, and there was good team-work on show when Hamill lent Lindgren a bike for Heat 6 with seconds to spare, and Lindgren won the race! In fact, Lindgren''s only defeat in the whole meeting came at the hands of Mark Loram in his first ride, and the Eagles guest was also the only man to beat Karlsson as the Wolves man was caught in traffic early in Heat 11. Wolves chipped away and consecutive 4-2s in Heats 7 and 8, both races won by Hamill, halved the gap from eight to four points - only for Eastbourne to go clear again with maximum points from Dean Barker and Lewis Bridger in Heat 12. But it was back to a four point difference after Heat 13 with Karlsson and Lindgren racing clear of Adam Shields and Mark Loram - and Wolves could have taken more than a 3-3 from the penultimate race. Hamill won convincingly enough but Magnus Karlsson was unlucky to drop from second to fourth, especially when he lost third place to Norris. So maximum points were required from the top Swedish duo once again, and they did not disappoint as they conclusively out-gated Barker and Loram to square the match and move Wolves into the Elite League''s top six ahead of Monday''s big match against Poole. EASTBOURNE: Dean Barker 10+1, Mark Loram 9, Lewis Bridger 8+2, David Norris 6+3, Adam Shields 5+2, Edward Kennett 4, Cameron Woodward 3. WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 14, Fredrik Lindgren 12+2, Billy Hamill 12, Magnus Karlsson 5+2, Ronnie Correy 2+1, Ben Wilson 0, Christian Hefenbrock r/r.
