WOLVERHAMPTON''S play-off hopes are still alive after their 54-40 home win over Arena-Essex.

Skipper Peter Karlsson was unbeaten by a Hammers rider in his four outings - but this was a solid team effort from the Monmore men.

They were forced to use the rider replacement facility to cover for the ill Christian Hefenbrock who informed the club 24-hours before the meeting that he was unable to travel from his German base.

The scoreline was a comprehensive one, although the Monmore Green side didn''t have things all their own way in the ewarly stages against the struggling Hammers.
Although Peter Karlsson and Ronnie Correy romped to an opening heat 5-1, Ronnie Russell''s men fought hard throughout.

As the meeting approached the half-way stage Arena were within sight of the home side just four-points adrift.

But Billy Hamill, twice in successive races, led the way home as Wolverhampton recorded maximums in heats 8 and 9 and the writing was very much on the wall for the visitors.

The three Karlsson brothers met in the 10th and it was Peter who led from start to finish with Mikael Max trailing in second and Magnus at the back. Mikael''s points were doubled-up under the tactical rule as Arena tried to stay in sight of Wolves.

Former Monmore skipper Steve Johnston also collected second place as a tactical ride in heat 12 but by this stage the Hammers were clearly on a damage limitation exercise.
Current skipper Peter Karlsson recorded a paid-maximum and the in-form Freddie Lindgren dropped just a point to an oppositing rider in another impressive display.

Magnus Karlsson regained some confidence at reserve and his 11-points from six outings sets him up nicely for the rest of the season.
