DONINGTON DOUBLE
16 September 2004 - Triumph ValMoto
Craig Jones is determined to achieve a British Supersport podium finish at Donington Park for the second consecutive year this weekend.
The Northwich rider would like to claim a Donington double podium aboard the Triumph ValMoto Daytona 600 to ensure that the team leaves the series in a blaze of glory. With Triumph having confirmed that it is withdrawing from racing in 2005, this weekend’s race will be the last one with the only remaining major British manufacturer on its entry list. Jones is confident ahead of the final round. He proved that the whole package – motorcycle and Pirelli tyres – and the team are working well together after showing an impressive return to form at round 12 at Oulton Park. The 19-year-old passed the chequered flag in fifth position for his best finish of the season since the opening round of the championship at Silverstone in March. Daring passes and exciting riding ensured that Jones finished high up the points in the penultimate race of the ultra-competitve 600cc class. Donington Park is a special place for Jones, as it is the circuit where he claimed his first-ever podium finish aboard the Triumph ValMoto Daytona 600. He crossed the line in third place at the final round of last year’s championship. ValMoto team manager Jack Valentine said: “The team is in high spirits ahead of this weekend. We knew that Craig was capable of the kind of riding that he displayed at Oulton Park. We’re looking for him to carry that form into this weekend to end our partnership with Triumph on a high note.” Craig Jones said: “I’ve enjoyed riding and developing the Daytona 600 with Triumph ValMoto. I know that I go well at Donington Park, so I’m looking for a podium finish to thank Triumph and the team for all of their support over the past two years and to ensure that our time in British Supersport is remembered for its success.”
