RAIN OR SHINE?
17 August 2006 - Rizla-Suzuki

Weather plays its part at Cadwell

RIZLA SUZUKI’S Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Steve Plater rode in both dry and wet conditions at today’s official MCRCB test at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

It was dry in the first session, allowing both Rizla Suzuki racers to find comfortable settings for their GSX-R1000s and post times within the top six.

The second session started dry and ended wet. The final session was held in torrential rain and both riders rode well within their limits, not wanting to risk a crash in the treacherous conditions.

Overall, Shakey finished fourth and Steve eighth, behind fastest rider on the day, Honda’s Karl Harris.

Rizla Suzuki’s Race Operation Manager Niall Mackenzie attended the test. He said: “The weather has certainly played its part today. While the rain stopped the riders from meaningfully testing new parts and settings, it also gave them valuable experience of wet riding at the track.

“Shakey and Steve will benefit from this test when they return here to race in just over a week’s time. Come rain or shine, we have good base settings to start with.”

Steve was standing in for the injured James Haydon and will fill his seat again at the 11th round of the Championship at Cadwell Park on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28th. James is targeting a return to full fitness by the penultimate round at Silverstone on September 17th.

Test times: 1: Karl Harris (Honda) 1:28.259, 2: Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda) 1:29.135, 3: Jonathan Rea (Honda) 1:29.100, 4: SHANE BYRNE (RIZLA SUZUKI) 1:29.258, 8: STEVE PLATER (RIZLA SUZUKI) 1:30.091.
