SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 18.8.06
18 August 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SPEEDWAY 1

MILDENHALL are looking to revive the memory of past glories when they compete in Saturday''s Premier League Fours at Workington.
The Fen Tigers are in their first season back in the Premier League but have a proven record of success in the competition.
Promoter Mick Horton said: ''It is a credit to the club that we have made the Fours and hopefully we can do ourselves and our supporters justice.''

SPEEDWAY 2

SHEFFIELD promoter Neil Machin says it is time for his club to make an impact on the Premier League Fours after struggling in recent years.
The Tigers won the event in 1999 and 2000 and went close the following season.
Machin said: ''I''ve almost forgotten what it''s like to win an event like this. It would be nice to change that on Saturday, but the line-up is awesome.''

SPEEDWAY 3

ERIC Boocock is the latest former star to commit his story to print in BOOEY: Around in Circles, a brilliant new 256-page book covering the eventful life and times of the Halifax legend who went on to co-manage England to a unique World Championship grand slam in 1980.
Booey, now 61 and still involved as stand-in team manager for Somerset and Workington this season, while also assisting Scunthorpe''s exciting youngster Josh Auty, looks back over a great riding career that saw him capped 56 times for his country and win the British Championship in 1974. In the same year he also became the first rider ever to be awarded a testimonial following 10 years'' loyal service as No.1 at The Shay.
In 1975, Eric began a new era as a promoter and team manager with Belle Vue, followed by stints with Sheffield, Bradford, Long Eaton and 2004 treble winners Hull. In his book, the straight-talking Yorkshireman gives an absorbing account of what life was like on both sides of the fence including his bust up with Stuart Bamforth, his candid thoughts on the Moran brothers, the night he pulled a crafty trick on Kenny Carter, the highs and lows of managing England and the problems that forced the closure of Hull.
You can order a signed copy of Booeyıs book for £15.99 - POST-FREE in the UK from the publishers: Retro Speedway, 103 Douglas Road, Hornchurch, Essex, RM11 1AW (cheque payable to Retro Speedway).
