14 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
PETERBOROUGH and Oxford will do battle on a neutral track this Wednesday in a bid to complete the Elite League fixtures in time for the play-offs.
The Silver Machine now have a great chance of qualifying after their 48-42 win at Coventry on Monday and will now face the Panthers at Arena Essex. Promoter Nigel Wagstaff said: ''It''s not ideal but we''ll go there in a positive frame of mind.'' FREDDIE Lindgren is facing a race against time to be fit for the Elite League play-offs after crashing out of Wolverhampton''s win over Peterborough. There is nothing broken, though he has had eight stitches to a wound on his face and his thigh is badly swollen. Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''You never know with youngsters, they are so keen but I would rate him extremely doubtful.” EXETER made history by scoring maximum points in their 75-18 whitewash of Rye House in what could be their last ever meeting at the County Ground. They are now the only team in the sport’s history to achieve the perfect score twice after beating Arena Essex 75-15 four-years ago. Seemond Stephens was top scorer with 15+3 from six rides after replacing fellow reserve Nick Simmons who was excluded under two-minutes. MILDENHALL will be boosted by the return of talented youngster Adam Roynon when they travel to Oxford on Friday. Roynon has recovered from two broken wrists sustained in May and his return is a timely boost for the Conference League title hopefuls. Fen Tigers co-boss Graham Drury said: “Adam has shown great determination to get back on a bike and it will be good to have him back.” FIXTURES TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 14: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Peterborough v Belle Vue 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Isle of Wight v Reading 7.30 WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 15: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Belle Vue v Ipswich 7.30 followed by Belle Vue v Poole, Peterborough v Oxford (at Arena Essex) 7.45 INTERNATIONAL BEST PAIRS: Hull 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Berwick v Newcastle 7.30, King’s Lynn v Exeter 7.30 CONFERENCE LEAGUE: Stoke v Weymouth 7.30, Wimbledon v Buxton 7.30 THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 16: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Swindon v Arena Essex 7.30, Ipswich v Peterborough 7.30, Coventry v Belle Vue 7.45 PREMIER LEAGUE: Sheffield v Isle of Wight 7.45 FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17: PREMIER LEAGUE: Somerset v King’s Lynn 7.30, Reading v Workington 7.30 SCOTTISH CUP: Edinburgh v Glasgow 7.30 CONFERENCE LEAGUE: Oxford v Mildenhall 7.15 followed by Oxford v Carmarthen CONFERENCE TROPHY: Weymouth v King’s Lynn 7.30 --- *BREAKING NEWS THROUGHOUT THE DAY AVAILABLE FROM: OFFICIAL BRITISH SPEEDWAY CLUBCALL NEWSLINE 09066 555 909 (calls cost 60p/min)
