AIRWAVES DUCATI ON TOP
11 August 2006 - Airwaves Ducati
Round 10 of the British Superbike Championship started with two practice sessions today at Croft.
The Airwaves Ducati riders Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla were satisfied with a days’ best of 2nd and 5th respectively in the cold and windy conditions. Currently laying 2nd in the Championship Leon Haslam was consistently fast in both sessions coming 3rd in morning practice with a time of 1:20.818. In the afternoon session he swapped the lead with Jonathan Rea a number of times eventually clocking 1:20.282, his fastest time of the day mid way through the session to finish 2nd. Gregorio Lavilla came 5th in both sessions recording his fastest time of 1:21.201 in second practice. Having switched bikes late in the second session Lavilla was pleased with his performance despite being slightly off race pace. The 2005 BSB Champion said, “The start of practice was ok although the bike is not feeling like it did during the test. We have made some changes today however towards the end of this afternoon I had a problem with one of the sensors so I had to switch bikes. I have now tried some different settings and I know what I am comfortable with for tomorrow. The conditions were poor today and we have been using a different tyre to the one we used in the test here last month so that has also affected my performance. I know I can go much quicker and that gives me confidence for the rest of the weekend.” Leon Haslam said “I am pretty happy with that; the cold and windy conditions have been difficult today and we have had to make some changes because of it but even so I clocked some consistently good times. I was quicker than Greg and Kiyo who are my rivals for the title and obviously Jonathan Rea looks to be a big threat here but I have been more consistent in races than him so I am confident for a good performance this weekend.” Qualifying for Round 10 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship begins tomorrow, Saturday 12th August, at 3pm.
