CROFT BECKONS
09 August 2006 - Jon Kirkham

Jon Kirkham and the Scuderia Stellare team will be returning to British Superbike Championship action this weekend at Croft after sitting out the previous round at Oulton Park.

‘Team Star’ had a trying weekend at their last Superbike round at Knockhill where a series of mechanical gremlins ended their first race prematurely and ruled them out of the second race.

These problems were further compounded by an acute shortage of parts for their Suzuki GSXR which left the team with no alternative but to withdraw from the Oulton Park round.

Team spokesperson Chris Johnson said it was a tough call to make but the team were left with little alternative.

“Mechanical issues have prevented us from showing our true potential and coupled with a shortage of parts we couldn’t recover in the week between Knockhill and Oulton Park to make it to the latter round. As a small team we simply didn’t have the resources to turn things around.”

Scuderia Stellare have also been dealt the double blow of having a potential sponsor withdraw recently which has led to them joining forces with Dienza Performance for the remainder of the season.

Johnson said it was an arrangement which suited both parties.

“Scuderia Stellare required some infrastructure support for the remainder of the season after we lost some funding at the last minute while Dienza Performance were in need of a rider so it is a positive outcome for all involved.

We can now move forward with confidence for the last four rounds and everyone involved is up for the challenge.”

The next round for the Scuderia Stellare team is at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire with practice commencing on Friday 11th August.
