SPEEDWAY 1

ARENA-ESSEX promoter Ronnie Russell is close to completing a new signing in a bid to end the Hammers'' miserable run.

A series of injuries have taken their toll on the Purfleet club who have dropped to the bottom of the table after an encouraging start.

Russell said: ''I have agreed terms with a new rider but I am waiting for the necessary approval to use him. We need to strengthen up.''

SPEEDWAY 2

MILDENHALL are offering free admission to all supporters for their Conference League clash with Newport on Sunday.

The Fen Tigers are following the example of Rye House, who recently staged two meetings of a similar nature.

Promoter Mick Horton said: ''This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who has not yet experienced speedway to get themselves down there on Sunday.''
