SPEEDWAY 1 SIX-TIME World Champion Tony Rickardsson has announced his immediate retirement due to the effects of concussion. Rickardsson was due to quit the sport at the end of the season but has missed major events recently in both the Grand Prix and World Cup. He said: ''Mentally it is impossible to race, the body has taken too many hits. I am afraid of receiving another concussion.'' SPEEDWAY 2 WEYMOUTH make their long-awaited return to the sport this Friday with a Challenge match against Club Carmarthen. The Wildcats have received the go-ahead to run a shortened season and already have nine home fixture dates over the next two months. David Mason will once again captain the team, and he said: ''Weymouth is a great club and I can''t wait to start racing again.''
